WHAT I WORE: Arctic Monkeys/Vampire Weekend concert

Hello lovelies!! I guess you could call this an outfit of the day if you really wanted too, but it's really windy and cold and I'm tired and I don't really care what the title of this post is so make it up or something.

ANYWAYS I SAW ARCTIC MONKEYS FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER and Vampire Weekend (who I've seen twice before) over the weekend at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas and it made me very happy. They were both fabulous, as well as all of the other bands that played.

I decided to channel both bands in my outfit with my reference to "Knee Socks" by Arctic Monkeys (sky blue Lacoste and knee socks)... and I threw in a plaid skirt for preppy Vampy Weeks vibes :)

arctic monkeys/vampire weekend concert

I got my tights from Target and my skirt from Brandy Melville, but otherwise, everything is exact. Oh, and I wore my brother's light blue polo that wasn't Lacoste but whatever.

Hello lovelies!! It's that monthly post again... music sharing time! Here are my top 5 tunes this month.

5. "S.O.S. In Bel Air" by Phoenix

I'm loving this Phoenix song more and more every time that I listen to it.

4. "Golden Veins" by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club recently released a new EP after 2012's Beacon, and in my opinion, this is its best track.

3. "Compliment Your Soul" by Dan Croll

Featured on the FIFA 14 playlist (and in my heart), this song makes one want to jump around and sing very, very loudly.

2. "The Mother We Share" by CHVRCHES

This is insane in a really good pair of headphones. It's insane any way you listen to it, though. CHVRCHES are such a cool band, I can't wait to hear more stuff from them!

1. "No. 1 Party Anthem" by Arctic Monkeys

For the second month in a row, Arctic Monkeys have topped my list!!! This song is absolutely beautiful and I would love to slow dance (probably with myself) to it 24/7.

THANKSGIVING (basically, family and pie)

Hello lovelies! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year. Each Thanksgiving, my whole family gets together, makes a lot of food, and watches a lot of holiday television. This year is no different.

Although this isn't what I'm wearing for Thanksgiving dinner, I'll try to share my outfit with you later. I had to add the pie slicer in there... pumpkin pie is my favorite!

Hello lovelies! I haven't done a writing post in a while, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to talk about something really important to me: organization, in the sense of how people stay organized and what organization means to them. To me, I think organization is a crucial skill when it comes to school and work. I mean, I'm 15... don't take advice from me on how to run your job. I just think that in order to be successful in important matters, one needs to be on top of all their responsibilities. For me, this includes doing all of my homework on time, studying for tests, knowing when important projects and other things are do, and actually having supplies for school Simple things, I know – you've probably heard it from teachers, parents, etc. I have different ideas, however, on organization in every day life.
I'll give you an example. I'm a very creative person, and I've loved art for as long as I can remember. Once I started high school, I became more serious about art. I'd keep a little art journal to sketch keep track of my ideas. Honestly, though, I don't like to be organized with my art. I'm that person that doesn't do a rough draft. I rarely draw something in pencil before I draw it in sharpie. Sure, my weird art practices have lead to some mistakes... an disproportional finger on an otherwise nice hand, a too-small space where a flower petal should fit but squeezing one more in would make it look awkward. I believe that's part of the process of art. In my opinion, art should be spontaneous, with your thoughts flowing directly from your brain, through the tips of your fingers and onto the paper.
Organization isn't necessary in all aspects of life. I'm a neat person, and my room is usually pretty clean. When I'm having a stressful week, though, I like to make a giant pile of clothes, school books, and cheerleading stuff in my room. Who cares? My room can be messy for a few days, so what. I'm too busy to clean it, so it's really a way of giving me less work. It sounds silly, but it helps for me.
Don't get me wrong, I have myself together. I'm always on top of important tasks (well, most of the time), but sometimes, I just like to be a little unorganized. In the long run, it helps my thoughts become organized, which is the healthy thing to you. My advice to all of you lovely readers (like 10 of you probably) is to take a break from perfect and don't be afraid to let little things like keeping your room clean get a bit out of your control.

Hello lovelies! Well, Halloween was yesterday... but I thought I'd share my DIY Hermione costume just in case there are any Halloween parties today!

What I Wore:

- Gryffindor tie from some costume store a million years ago

Helllloooooo lovelies! Here are the top four songs I've been listening to this month.

4. "Swingin Party" by Lorde

This cover is hauntingly beautiful - I don't care if "Royals" is overplayed, Lorde is actually pretty good.

3. "California" by The Kooks

I made a CD of songs about Los Angeles (and surrounding areas) for my lovely foreign exchange student from England who left yesterday... so sad. But this song just reminds me of home, and I love dancing around to it alone in my room. It's also a cover.

2. "Doin' it Right" by Daft Punk & Panda Bear

I hear this song on the radio all of the time, and I always find myself turning the volume up and singing along. Well, doing my best robot voice/Noah Lennox impressions. I dunno, it's just a really good song.

1. "I Wanna Be Yours" by Arctic Monkeys

The lyrics of this song are actually adapted from a poem of the same name, which I am obsessed with. It's a beautiful song and Alex Turner's vocals make me want to melt.

HAUL: Birthday

mini birthday haul

Here's a few things I got from friends and family for my birthday on the 19th. First, I'm so excited for my new glasses. My old ones are getting all scratched up, and everyone at my school is getting them. I'm freaking out about the second Rookie yearbook, and I can't wait to stay up late reading it by my book light. I fell in love with Fjallraven backpacks when I got a classic lavender one for school, and this one was on sale so I decided to ask for it as an alternative and to use next year too. Also, I went to the mall with my lovely foreign exchange student on the day after my birthday and bought myself this flannel head scarf thingy. I've been wanting one forever and I cannot wait to wear it.

WISH LIST: Birthday

Hello lovelies! Well, it's that time of year again... my birthday is in less than two weeks (October 19th, to be exact) and I cannot wait! I'm super young for my grade (still 14, 10th grade) so I'm always really excited for the day that lets me say I'm just as old as everyone else. Well, at least until spring when everyone starts turning 16. Whatever.

Birthday Wish List

I am obsessed with these pants from American Apparel. Super adorable, and I love the color. They'll go well with everything!

I bought a record player with my own money last year, but it only plays through my family's TV downstairs. I really want one for my room that I can play when my friends come over or if I'm just hanging out.

I mentioned that I wanted a new pair of glasses, too... I have terrible eyes!

And finally, I would really love to read Alexa Chung's book, It.

Hello lovelies! I recently discovered this brand on ASOS called Hunt No More. They make the prettiest party dresses! It just so happened that my favorite dress went on sale, so I snatched it for a party that I'm going to tonight.

Previously $220, now it's $35? I'd say that's a steal. I'm going to wear it with my black suede chunky heels and have my hair blown out to waves. I cannot wait!

Hello lovelies!!! Although it's October 3rd, it's time for my September music crushes! Here's a few songs that I've been listening to non-stop this past month.

1. Wolf Pack - The Vaccines

I've been listening to this album all the time in the car, and this song is great to sing loudly and pretend I'm really in a cool band like The Vaccines.

2. Ladies of Cambridge - Vampire Weekend

I saw Vampire Weekend this past Saturday for the second time, and I'm so sad they didn't play this (they had on previous shows of this tour).

3. Oblivion - Bastille

I also recently saw Bastille. This song was great live!

4. Sun Hands - Local Natives

Aaaaand I saw Local Natives recently too! My friends and I went crazy during the song. Taylor Rice even chipped his tooth while singing this song. Crazy.

5. No. 1 Party Anthem - Arctic Monkeys

I have been religiously listening to AM this week. It's so lovely to listen to this song before I go to sleep.

Hello lovelies!!! Wow, the first month of school had already finished and the Homecoming game/dance is right around the corner. Since I'm a cheerleader, we have a lot of work to do for the halftime show. But of course, I'm always thinking of the dance the night after! I've never had a date, but I like going (and third-wheeling) with my friends.

It's called the Renaissance Skater Dress and it's from Ginger Fizz. I ordered it off of ASOS which was awesome cause I could get multiple sizes and shipping/returns were free!

I personally love the dress and I think it'll make a statement with the pattern, but the shape is simple and classy. I can't wait to wear it!

Hello lovelies! It's almost Fall, my favorite time of year, and I cannot wait! In celebration, I decided to pick out a few things from Wildfox Couture that I'd love to be wearing when it gets a little cooler (which seems like never).

wildfox wishlist

The "DAISY" shirt with all if its Gatsby vibes makes me so happy. I love the moon; I can see it through the window in my room every night, and I count down the days every month for the full moon. I've been looking for a new pair of glasses (can I get a "YAY FOR BAD EYES") and these ones are adorable.

My birthday is coming up...

Hello lovelies! If you haven't been reading my blog lately, I jut returned from a week at the best camp ever. Camp has taught me many things, from life lessons to how to be crazy good at playing Mafia. One of the most important, though, is how to execute the perfect Tie Dye garment. Here are some tips for making the best tie dye possible:

1. Make sure you saturate your fabric with as much dye and possible.
Once your shirt/whatever you're dyeing is all tied up, soak it with dye. Every little crack of fabric that you can possibly see should be dyed. If you're not sure that you've soaked it completely, add more dye. You'll be able to tell when you're done when the dye starts dripping out of the fabric.

2. The type of dye you use makes a difference.
If you use a cheap tie dye kit, the results aren't gonna be as good. I always use Rit Dye because it's super saturated and you have a huge range of colors to choose from.

3. Wear gloves when you tie dye.
This goes for all types of dyeing, but I learned this the hard way. At camp, we tie dyed shirts and bags, and all of our hands were purpley-red for the next three days. It kinda sucked. Just make sure to wear gloves, and if you don't have gloves, cover your hands in plastic shopping bags.

4. Don't be too meticulous with your dyeing.
I've found that dyeing random sections of your bundled-up fabric with weird colors and hoping for the best always makes the coolest tie dyes. It's like shooting with a film camera; you never know what you're gonna get until it's done.

5. Recycle your dye.
When you have 15 + teenagers tie dyeing together, there's gonna be pools of random colored dyes everywhere. One of my counselors showed us the coolest tie dyeing technique where you bundle up your fabric in random sections and dip it in all of the extra dye pools. With us, we got a cool greenish brown with red and blue patches. It was crazy cool and every dye job turns out different.

BACK TO SCHOOL: Plaid Skirts

Hello lovelies! Up until last year, I had to wear a uniform for school. I've had my fair share of plaid, khaki, and polo shirts over the years. Nevertheless, I still love plaid skirts reminiscent of school uniforms, and I think they're adorable to wear with a normal outfit.

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Hello lovelies! The title says it all. I have been going to camps since I was tiny, and I have so many amazing memories, lessons learned, and friends made. Summer Camp is a magical place (that I am at right now) where the real world doesn't really exist. It has it's own rules.

Rule #1:
You can be way more cooler at camp than you actually are in real life.
By this, I mean that camp friends aren't going to look at you the same way your school friends would. Maybe you're really into playing guitar (like me!!!), but none of your school friends have really seen you do it. At camp, though, you're like the world's coolest musician ever and everyone loves you. It's awesome.

Rule #2:
Camp friends will not judge you.
Okay, disclaimer: (good) real life friends won't judge you either. But I've found from my many years of attending summer camps that due to the fact camp friends don't really know who you're like with your real life friends, you can be crazy and weird and they don't care at all. They'll be crazy and weird with you.

Rule #3:
Camp is the perfect place to try new things.
This one is kinda obvious. Because no one's judging you, camp is an awesome opportunity to do things you've always wanted to do. Jump in the lake before the sun rises! Show a hidden talent! Make a dish out of clay!

Rule #4:
Camp and real life are two different worlds.
Even though I keep in touch with a lot of my friends from various camps, it would be so weird to hang out with them with my school friends as well. Alternatively, the thought of one of my real life friends coming to my camp is hard to comprehend. You have a camp life, and a real life. If you're one of the people that's succeeded in merging those two, I commend you.

Rule #5:

The magic of camp is only understood by the campers (and counselors).
If you've never been to summer camp (or a sleepaway summer camp, for that matter), most likely, you just won't get it. Here, RookieMag has a wonderful article trying to explain. But it's something that has to be experienced first-hand, no matter how many times you've seen The Parent Trap.

Oh, Summer Camp. How I love you.

Hello lovelies!!!! Wow, school is coming fast. I only have 6 days left at home until the first day of my Sophomore year in high school. It's crazy how fast summer goes. One good thing that the new school does bring is back to school shopping. I needed a new pair of shoes for assembly day (once every 6 days, everyone has to dress up nicely), and I found these adorable ones on ASOS! They're perfect because the heel is under 3 inches (my school's rule) but still cute.

I am writing this at 5:08 in the morning in an effort to lessen the horrible jetlag I will have in Europe. I'm leaving tomorrow morning, so for the past three days, I've been waking up an hour earlier. Hopefully it'll help.

Since I'm going to be boarding two planes for a combined total of more than 12 hours tomorrow, I wanted to share some tips on what I'm wearing for the flight.

What To Wear On An Airplane

Top: I like to wear baggy t-shirts, mainly because they're super comfortable. Plus, if you're getting too warm, a flowy t-shirt will keep you cooler than something tight.

Jacket/Sweater: Normally, planes are cold. If the place you are landing in isn't super hot, wearing a chunky jacket or sweater on the airplane is a good idea and will give you a little more room in your suitcase.
Pants (LEGGINGS!!!): I cannot stress enough how awesome leggings are. They're extremely comfortable, and they can feel like sweatpants without having to actually wear sweatpants. Just make sure the pair you have isn't see-through.

Shoes: For on your feet, wear the heaviest pair you planned to bring (as long as they're not heels - ugh it makes my feet hurt just thinking of it). Although my heaviest item are my rain boots (going to Ireland, people!), I'm opting for my vintage Dr. Marten.

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I'm leaving for Europe on Saturday and I cannot wait! I thought I'd tell you guys some of the stuff I'm bringing on my carry-on bag, giving you a few pointers along the way.

A new magazine because I get really bored on airplanes.
My favorite headphones to listen to tunes and cancel out crying babies!
A travel journal to write some thoughts before I land.
A beanie to keep my hair from going crazy.
My required summer reading book, The Importance of Being Earnest.
Fuzzy socks to keep my feet warm.
My phone.
A change of clothes.
An extra sweatshirt.

Basically, bring stuff that'll entertain you, especially if the airplane you're going on doesn't have a movie (or entertainment at all). I'm bringing a change of clothes in case my luggage gets lost (ugh please no), but I may change into them when I land anyway... I will be gross after a 12+ hour flight with connections. The extra sweatshirt can keep me warm OR serve as an extra blanket/pillow. Ok I'm really excited yay.

OBSESSION: Pinafore Dresses

pinafore dresses

For some reason, I am obsessed with pinafore dresses right now. They are so cute, and perfect for layering over a tank or t-shirt in the summer. They're super convertible too, because wearing a long-sleeve and tights under one is great for colder weather! I'm debating wether to sew a pinafore dress myself of buy one... I'm impatient! I don't like waiting for shipping!! :( These three pinafore dresses are totally cute, and they're on the top of my list.

Hello lovelies! It's almost summer here in California, and I can't wait. To me, Summer means pretty dresses, sleeping in, and long nights with friends. Here's a few ways I would wear my favorite Summer dresses.

How to: Printed Dress

A printed dress is perfect for summer. To balance out the print, try to wear solid-color shoes and accessories.

How To: Pinafore

I've been dying for a pinafore dress! I would wear it on top of a cute striped shirt and comfy sneakers. No need to carry around a bag - stick your phone in your pocket and you're good to go.

How To: Maxi Dress

I find that maxi dresses look best when your shoes have some kind of platform or heel. Because the cut is basic, get creative with your bag and other accessories!

I can't wait to wear dresses in Summer. Counting down the days!

SUMMER TREND: Chunky Black Sandals

Hello lovelies! I've been online shopping a lot recently in preparation for summer. I've been needing a new pair of sandals, and I'm absolutely in love with all of the chunky styles out right now.

Favorite Trend: Chunky Black Sandals

Over $100, top to bottom:
The braiding detail on these Topshop sandals caught my eye.
I'm a huge fan of Dr. Martens, and I screamed in excitement when I found out these existed!
The gold studs and ankle clasp (is that what you call it) on these Topshop sandals add class.

Under $100, top to bottom:
These ASOS sandals remind me of space boots... in sandal form.
I love the double buckle on these sandals from Topshop.
And of course, I love Nasty Gal's take on the jelly sandal. Reminds me of when I was 5. Awesome.

What do you think of this trend? I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of chunky sandals. Although, the word chunky kinda grosses me out now that I think about it.

ASOS HAUL: Perfect Summer Dress

Hello lovelies! I ordered the cutest summer dress yesterday off ASOS, and of course, I got an email from ASOS with a 20% off code this morning... It's alright though, because I love the dress so much.

It's called the ASOS Smock Dress in Tie Dye Print, and it's perfect. Lately I've been trying to find a lightweight dress for summer, but every single one only comes in black! I've realized that black isn't such a great color for me (in the day at least) because I'm pretty tan and it looks weird. This tie dye dress is just the right colors and fabric. I can't wait for it to come! When it does, I'll definitely do a review.

ROSIE (it's too hot)

I want to stay inside all day. It was 102 degrees yesterday, which was awful. At my school, I can't wear shorts or tank tops, so we were pretty much just a boiling mass of students. To make it worse, the teachers all crank up the AC so it's like a tundra in their rooms. No thanks.

I would love to be able to wear a tank top.

Here's the tunes I loved this past month.

5. The Rip Tide - Beirut

Beirut is opening for Vampire Weekend at the Hollywood Bowl (which I'm seeing!!!) and I couldn't be more excited. This song is one of my favorites. The first minute is filled with intense music that conveys the emotions of a storm over the ocean. The rest of the song is just pure awesome.

4. Lakehouse - Of Monsters & Men

I saw Of Monsters & Men at Coachella, but was only able to catch Little Talks, Mountain Sound, and this song. I was so happy because I absolutely adore Lakehouse... it reminds me of a lake I spent a week at last summer where I have about a million memories.

3. Campus - Vampire Weekend

My love for this song has always existed, but it recently exploded into a giant cloud of perfect. Vampire Weekend was also amazing at Coachella, and this song was no exception. There was a dude next to me that new every word to it which, for some reason, made me really happy. I imagine going to a university on the East Coast every time I play this. It's great.

2. Petulia - The Kooks

I guess this counts as a last-minute add, considering I just remembered how good this song was last night right before I went to sleep. This followed by me trying to teach myself the guitar part (and failing). I always loved the slower songs from The Kooks (re: Seaside, Do You Love Me Still?), and this is no exception.

1. Everything - Ben Howard

I cannot put my love for this song in words. Every time I listen to Ben Howard, I close my eyes and picture staring through a window and seeing cloudy skies and rain. I may be one of the few who is ecstatic about rain... it's just so peaceful. Ben Howard is the soundtrack to May's rainy days, and Everything is the theme song.

After Christmas (along with the, maybe, 2 days of Winter we got), I was so ready for Summer to come rolling around. I've changed my mind. It's too hot, and I'd really like to wear a sweater without burning to a crisp. I guess I do want Summer though, considering I'm going to the home of coldness/rain/sweater weather: Ireland.

So I've been talking about my trip to Ireland this summer, and I'm finally revealing all of the exciting-to-me-but-probably-not-to-you details!

This summer, I'm going to art camp in Ireland with two of my friends. I'm unbelievably excited; I love art and have been making it forever, and I've always wanted to visit Ireland. At this camp, I'm going to be with 19 other artsy teenagers (who I really hope like the same music as me). We eat together, paint together, hang out together, and more. I literally cannot contain my excitement. I even have a countdown clock on the dashboard of my Macbook until the day when my flight leaves. That's another point... I'm flying alone, eeep! Well, I'm flying with one my friends. It's gonna be so much fun. I've been on lots of flights before, so I'm not really nervous. Expect some posts closer to the date with advice for flying alone, what I'm packing, etc.

Now when I mention Ireland in a post, you'll get it. Awesome, right? Yeah, totally.

Friday, April 26, 2013

It's Friday morning and I'm so ready for school to be over this week. Last weekend, I went camping and didn't get much sleep. The weekend before that, I was at Coachella, so I didn't get any sleep then either. I'm not complaining; it was my decision to use my weekend like that and not sleep (I totally do not regret going to Coachella). It's just that after 2 weeks of non-stop work, I'm extremely excited to do things that I want to do and actually relax when I get back from school today. Here's what I'm planning:

1. Read a book.
Right now, I'm reading The Great Gatsby. I've recently started reading a lot more, and I love it. Its nice to be in a different world for a little bit. Recent books that I've read and loved: Looking for Alaska - John Green, An Abundance of Katherines - John Green, and Eleanor & Park - Rainbow Rowell.

2. SLEEP!!!
Take a nap! I know it sounds sorta stupid but its awesome. Who doesn't like sleeping? I love taking short naps when I get home from school or before dinner.

3. Get your work done.
If you have any homework or tests to study for, do it right when you get home from school on Friday. Saturday is my I'm-not-doing-any-homework-don't-try-to-make-me day, so if I can get it all done on Friday, that's great. Plus, you won't have to do it on Sunday or be stressed about it the whole weekend.

4. Clean/organize your stuff.
I don't know if it's just me, but cleaning out my backpack, desk, and other random crap in my room relaxes me. I like my stuff to be organized and neat, and when it is, I'm calmer. I like to play some calm tunes on my iHome stereo and clean little sections of my room at a time. Its nice.

5. Do what you want.
All week, you have to go to school, study for tests, do homework, wake up early, etc. And if you're me and have a dress code at school, it takes five million hours to pick what I'm gonna wear each day so that I'm not breaking the rules. Once the weekend starts, do things you want to do like staying up later, watching a movie, spending the whole night on tumblr, or playing music. Be creative and have an awesome time.

Side note: You don't need to hang out with friends after school all of the time! If you're like me, you'll like your own company. It's nice to be alone and have Vampire Weekend dance parties.

Earth day was Monday, but at my school we celebrated it last week. In honor of this awesome holiday celebrating the world we live on, I wanted to show you three of my favorite earthy t-shirts!

earth day t-shirts

Left: ASOS Peeking Kitten tank
I orded this tank from ASOS and I absolutely love it! It fits perfectly and the little kitten is so adorable. I'm a huge cat person and this is like, totally awesome.

Middle: Vampire Weekend "Modern Vampires of the City" T-Shirt
YAY FOR MERCH STANDS!!! I got this t-shirt at Coachella. I wore it at my school's Earth Day celebration on Friday because of all the pretty flowers.

Right: Wildfox Rainbow Horse T-Shirt
I love this shirt. I got it for Christmas, and it's so unbelievably soft. Above comfort, this shirt has an awesome horse print with a magical, girly rainbow overlayed. Perfect!!!

What are you doing/did you do to celebrate Earth Day?

COACHELLA 2013: Weekend 1 Roundup & Advice

If you haven't been reading my blog, I just came back from Coachella Weekend 1, my first Coachella (and music festival) ever. It was one of the best weekends of my life, and I wanted to share it with you all!

Here's the sets I saw each day of the festival.

Of Monsters and Men
Passion Pit
Local Natives
Beach House
Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Wombats
Ben Howard
Danny Brown
Ben Howard
Portugal. The Man
Grizzly Bear
The Postal Service
Two Door Cinema Club

Little Green Cars
The Airborne Toxic Event
Kurt Vile and the Violators
The Lumineers
Tame Impala
Social Distortion
Vampire Weekend

Bands I have new love for: Little Green Cars, Local Natives
Best crowds: Vampire Weekend, The Lumineers, Two Door Cinema Club
Best sing-alongs: A-Punk (Vampire Weekend), Stubborn Love (The Lumineers), What You Know (Two Door Cinema Club), Such Great Heights (The Postal Service)

10 things I would recommend you do at the festival:
1. Even if EDM isn't your thing, go to the Sahara tent for at least one set. I went the first night and got a pair of crazy (free, even better) light-diffracting glasses. It was so much fun.
2. Go on the ferris wheel once. It's huge and I loved seeing the whole festival from the very top!
3. Take advantage of the sponsor tents. I went in the H&M tent countless times for air conditioning, free wifi, and giant mirrors with face wipes, sunscreen, and dry shampoo. It was awesome.
4. Get the pizza multiple times. It's delicious, I promise.
5. The salads are really good too. I had the Lemon Caesar on the last day, and I regret not getting it before.
6. Buy your merch when you have a break between sets earlier in the day (and earlier in the weekend, if possible). I got both of my t-shirts on Friday between Beach House and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and there was no line.
7. If you're going to get anything from the record store, get it on the last day and have them hold it during the day (it's free).
8. Bring a refillable water bottle and try to fill it whenever you're near the water station. It's free and totally worth it when you're packed in a crowd during the middle of day.
9. If you want to get to the front of a set, go to the set before and try to push your way up. When the set before ends, charge to the front. In the mess of most people leaving that stage, you'll be able to squeeze way closer. It's especially easy if the act before is polar opposite to the act you're waiting for (in my case, Danny Brown and Ben Howard).
10. If you don't want to rent a locker but still need to carry a lot of stuff, bring a small backpack that has adjustable straps. During sets like Two Door Cinema Club and Vampire Weekend, I tightened the straps all the way so that it wouldn't bug me while I was jumping. At The Wombats, I had enough space that I just put my bag on the ground in front of me.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

Check out what I'm bringing in my bag to the actual festival!

I'm bringing Neutrogena Ultra Sheer sunblock in 70 SPF and an old kids sunscreen stick for my face and lips.

Phone charger and wall adapter
They have charging stations inside of the festival, and I also want to charge my phone in my room.

These are Ray-ban's Clubmasters in black. Make sure your sunglasses actually protect against UV rays!

Mini flashlight
I'm bringing this for when it gets dark so I don't get lost or loose my friends. Also it has a watermelon print and it's really cute.

My hair is wavy and thick, so it's gonna get hot and gross on my neck during the day. To avoid that, I'm bringing thick hairbands.

I promise I'm not bringing ones to the festival, it was just for the picture! I've read that most vendors only take cash, and I don't even have a credit card so that would be stupid.

I have a billion of these single wipes, which are awesome for before and after eating as well as after you venture into the port-a-potties.

Plastic water bottle
Coachella doesn't allow metal water bottles inside, so I'm definitely bringing a plastic one to stay hydrated. This one takes up as little space as possible and still carries a substantial amount of water.

Not pictured:

Cell phone
Obviously!!! I'm also writing my friends' numbers on my arm in case my phone dies.

Full setlist
I think Coachella gives booklets when you get in the festival with the setlist and maps and stuff, but I'm gonna print an extra copy for each day just in case.

Map of the grounds
Again, I think this is in the booklet but I don't want to get lost.

Me and my friends are working out our conflicts and making a custom setlist before the festival. We're each gonna have a copy so that we can see as many of the acts we wanted to catch as possible. Also, if one of us gets lost, we'll know where the others are.

denim on denim on denim

I'm loving denim right now. All shades, textures, and pieces. I have a lot of denim shorts, but I'd love a light-wash, oversized denim jacket! And these denim flatform shoes are awesome.

COACHELLA 2013: non-clothing essentials

Hello lovely people! These past few weeks, I've been doing a weekly post about Coachella 2013; outfits, bags to carry, even shoes to wear. Since most of the posts in this series have been about fashion, I thought it was time to talk about some more practical, non-obvious items that you should bring to the festival.

coachella essentials

1. Sunscreen
I 100% recommend this sunscreen from Neutrogena. I use it all of the time, and it works so well. I have olivey skin, but places like my shoulders and neck are pretty pale, so I need to make sure I don't get burned. This sunscreen is super light and it doesn't smell bad, either. Make sure to pack sunscreen like this, or you'll regret it.

2.  A watch
My two friends that I'm going to Coachella with and I decided that it would be smart for at least one of us to wear a watch. I don't want to loose my phone (which I totally would) taking it in and out of my bag constantly to check the time. Also, it'll save battery on your phone that you may need to call friends. This watch from ASOS is super cute, and cheap too!

3. A plastic water bottle
Short story: At my school, everyone is obsessed with Camelbak water bottles. They're nice, obviously, but they have this weird double-layer thing so that there's less space for actual water inside of the the water bottle. This, to me, is a reason to get a different water bottle for Coachella. I don't want to take up room in my bag just because I wanted an extra layer of plastic on my water bottle. I have like 3 Contigo water bottles, and they're awesome. You press a little button on the back that lets you drink water, so if the button is not pressed (forcefully - it won't get pressed by something in your bag) water won't come out. Plus, it's got a built-in clip so you can clip it to the outside of your bag if you'd like.

4. A pencil/pen
Coachella doesn't allow you to bring sharpies or markers into the festival, but a pencil or pen is always a good idea. You can mark set times for bands you want to see (see 5), write your friends' numbers on your arm in case your phone dies, and plot on a map of the festival grounds where to meet if someone gets lost.

5. The full set list, and your CUSTOM set list
You'll want to have the full set list (every single act) with you, as well as a plan of the acts you want to see, times, and stages. When Coachella releases the set times before Weekend 1 (when I'm going), I'm going to make a custom set list of the bands/artists my friends and I want to see so that we can try to see everything possible. If you don't want to have a plan like that, use the full set list to see what's playing or just wander around the festival and discover new acts. Either way, have the setlist/set times so you're not clueless.

6. A hat
Hats are extremely important for the hot sun. I'm not bringing a large bag, so I don't want to take a giant sun hat and have to carry it around when I don't want to wear it. I just got back from vacation on the beach, and my scalp burned after one day (I have dark hair and a really pale scalp), so I knew that I needed to bring a hat to the festival. Opt for one with an adjustable back, so that you can string a ponytail through your hat if you want. Also, try to get a decent hat (terrycloth visor wearers, I'm talking to you).

7. Sunglasses
This is an obvious one, but please bring sunglasses. Make sure that they actually have UV protection, and aren't just cheap, dark plastic lenses. Also, don't bring super expensive glasses unless you are positive you won't accidentally loose them. Sorta hard to be positive of that in advance, but you know what I mean.

Oh, summer. Oh, camp. Oh, summer camp.
Lately I've been very nostalgic for my summer camp. For the past two years, I get to spend one week with a bunch of amazing people on a lake. I miss tie dyeing, doing henna, and listening to great music. and I miss it all so much, and I cannot wait to go at the end of this coming summer.

COACHELLA 2013: Another Festival Outfit

Hello lovelies! Be sure to read my other Coachella 2013 posts about bags and shoes.

Side note - I got my wristbands in the mail yesterday! The box that they came in is so cool. My favorite part is the lineup posters from every Coachella... totally putting those everywhere in my room.

Here's another cute festival outfit I put together as inspiration. I got a top extremely similar to this Topshop one from Urban Outfitters, and it's the perfect top to wear to Coachella!

Can't wait!
