ENGLAND COUNTDOWN: Topshop Wish List

Helloooo lovelies! Well, I'm going to England in 9 days if I hadn't reminded you already... it's all that I can think about. One of my favorite things about England? Topshop.

Ok, I know we have it in America. I visited the flagship store in NYC when it first opened, as well as the ones in LA and Vegas. Still, there's a few differences: the clothes Topshop chooses to have in-store in the US, especially LA, are not the same as they sell in the UK - they're honestly not as cute sometimes. I don't know why, probably the weather/target market differences. Also, Topshop doubles all of the their prices when they convert Pounds to Dollars; for example, a 50 pound dress would be $100, instead of the real exchange value, which is about $84 as of now. That's $16 less that I would pay if I bought the dress in England. Hence my obsession with Topshop in the UK.

Here's what I'm hoping to stock up on when I'm there:

Topshop Shopping List

1. Crop Sweaters (jumpers)
I own this crop in light blue, but I've worn it so much that I want a new one (or just more!!). I wear so many high-waisted bottoms that crop jumpers come in handy all of the time. They're not too heavy, so I can wear them with skirts when the weather gets hotter.

2. Cropped Basic Tanks/Tees
I love Topshop's basic stuff, and I need more staples like this top to wear with my high-waisted bottoms and pattern jackets/sweaters.

3. Skort
These aren't a big trend where I live yet, but I've been seeing skorts like this on Instagram and Tumblr a lot lately. I love plaid (really, I'm obsessed), and this one looks perfect.

4. Frilly Socks
I live in Topshop frilly socks. I only have two pairs, and I'm in need of more. They make an outfit a little more girly, and are waaaaay cuter than normal ankle socks.

5. Flat White Sandals
I've seen these sandals in Topshop at Nordstrom and really wanted them, but again, they're cheaper in England. Super cute for summer.

6. Tortishell Sunnies
I've seen some old pictures of Alexa Chung wearing tortishell sunnies like these, and I mean, she's a goddess. How could you not want to look like Alexa Chung?

If there's anything that you have your eye on from Topshop (or something you got recently that you love), let me know so I can look for it during my shopping trip!

HENNA & HEALING STONES

Hello lovelies!! I got this awesome henna at a party over the weekend, and I wanted to show you before it faded. I also thought I'd throw in a few of the cool stones I have in my room... apparently they have healing powers or something?

It's a nice idea that rocks can be spiritual, sorta like a lucky charm. These three are special to me; my mother gave me one, my friend and I bought matching rocks, and I found the obsidian in a dormant volcano site. Rocks are cool.

And of course, henna is cool too. I've tried to do henna designs before like this one, but they never turn out well - I end up just drawing yin-yangs and clovers. I love this lotus, though.

DIY Pins & Buttons

Hello lovelies!! In my last post, I showed you this cool Drowners pin I made. Here's the rest of the little designs I've made into pins so far:

Some I've printed out, I drew the "mysterious band member" one, and I used the keys off of an old keyboard for the Alt-J pin.

If you haven't heard, I'm going to start an Etsy Store!!!! I'll be launching it in a about a month, and I'll be selling lots of handmade stuff as well as some cool vintage pieces I find. I will sell hand-drawn pins with lots of different designs: think alt-rock bands, pressed flowers, and more!

If you have any suggestions for what I should make/sell, let me know!!

MAJOR HAIRCUT ANXIETY (+ a Drowners pin!)

Helloooo lovelies!! So I haven't had my hair cut in more than a year, and I'm really nervous about it. Like, I get scared to trim an inch off of the ends because I feel like it'll look really bad. Well... my mom persuaded me into just getting it cut yesterday (wasn't planning on going for a while) and so this happened.

My hair's now like 3 (maybe 4?) inches shorter. I just told her to cut off all of the dead ends because I knew I needed to. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! It grows back, right? And there's a cheeky appearance of my new Drowners pin I made yesterday too!

ENGLAND COUNTDOWN: 26 days

Hello lovelies!!! Wow, this year has gone by fast. First thing it was in September and I was just a lil girl with a lot of high school left in front of her. Next thing I knew, it was May and that lil girl had an AP test in a day and a trip to England coming up really really fast. (the lil girl is meeeeeeeee)!!!!!

If you've been following my blog, you'll know how much I love all this British. Yes, I am an anglophile. No, I am not an American that's like "Say more words! Have you met the queen?" - I'd like to think I'm a little more educated and a little less... annoying. I'm rambling. What I'm trying to get to is that I hosted a lovely foreign exchange student from England through our schools last October, and I get to visit them this summer!

Me and a group of people from my school (most of whom hosted students in October) are taking a trip across the pond in only 26 days to explore London and then go meet up with our exchange friends. I cannot wait. I've been to England twice before, and not just London - I went to the Cotswolds and stayed at a lovely cottage with family friends. I want to explore more of England, and I cannot wait to go to Somerset... I've heard the sunsets are beautiful!!

Foreign Exchange to England

I'm already starting to pack, which is kinda sad. I'm not sure if I should bring any of my American Flag clothing... Funny story time! When the English students visited us, they got to come to a football game. I'm a cheerleader, so I watched from the track around the field as my school's cheering section sang the Star Spangled Banner and waved our giant American flag (my school's colors are red, white, and blue). It was so hilarious seeing the Brits standing with high school boys, clueless. We have this joke rivalry, of course - it's always funny to make fun of each other's accents and slang words.

Oh man, I'm so excited! Ahhhhhhh!!!!! If you're from the UK and have any advice for me on how to not be an annoying American, let me know please. My friends and I have promised to let one another know when we're talking too much like Valley Girls... hey, I'm not ashamed! It's just a bit of a habit sometimes.

REVIEW: Shelly's London Milligan

Hello lovelies!!! I was lucky enough recently to win an awesome pair of shoes through Urban Outfitters on Instagram. They're by the brand Shelly's London, which I hadn't heard of until recently. Apparently it's got a history, and is being resurrected from the 90s grave of fashion!

They sent me the Milligan style in white. As you can see from the photo below, I actually removed the little belt-buckle thing around the top of the boot. It easily slides in and out. I just decided it was a little distracting, and I liked the shoe better without it.

I've worn them a few times already, and I couldn't be happier. They're super comfortable, and go with everything! I really love them so much. I will definitely consider buying shoes from Shelly's London after this amazing pair. I especially love showing them off on my Instagram (@alyszsa)!!

PRESSING FLOWERS

Hellooooo lovelies! I've recently been out on walks picking flowers, and I've pressed them at home so I could save their beauty. Instead of using an ugly old science textbook (which I've done before), the flowers are being pressed in lovely old books I got from garage sales. They're all torn up at the edges and have the prettiest designs on them.

I love how the colors can change once the petals are dried out. The rose petals were originally white and slightly pink, but they changed to this lovely gold and rich pink color.

What should I do with all my pressed flowers? I keep them in a folder, and my collection is growing. Sometimes I use them for art, but I'm sure there's other things that could be done with all of the pretty petals! If you have any ideas, let me know!
