My Last Homecoming Game

Being a Senior in high school comes with its perks: authority, confidence, more days off for "college visits," being closer and closer to college. Yet, the one bad thing about it is that, as the insanely sentimental and nostalgic person I am, I find myself constantly realizing that something just happened for the last time.

I have been a cheerleader all four years of high school, and regardless of what people say, it's a very time-consuming, physical sport. Still, I love it, because the feeling of cheering on my school's team when they make a great play to get the lead is fantastic. I cheered at my last football game this past Friday; well, not really cheered... more like stood with my coaches in uniform and yelled out the cheers with my teammates, as I'm not permitted to do physical activity for four more weeks due to my car accident. Nevertheless, I had a great time, and the fact that it's over makes me infinitely sad.

Every senior on the team (there are five of us) got these adorable baby's breath/white rose crowns to wear during the game. In order to satisfy the nostalgia I knew I would have soon, I kept my crown to dry out in my bedroom.

NYFW SS 2016: Day 5 (Badgley Mischka at the Skylight, Grimes)

My last day in New York City was everything I could ever hope for. I've been to NYC before multiple times - don't get me wrong - but this was the icing on the cake.

Grimes was staying at my hotel, The Soho Grand, and she was waiting outside for an Uber the same time that I was. I was freaking out too much to say anything or ask for a photo, so here's a pic of me looking stupid with Grimes looking super cool in the background. Claire Boucher, you are awesome.

I was lucky enough to attend the Badgley Mischka show at the Skylight at Moynihan Station, which was amazing. Here are some photos of model rehearsal and the final show:

The dresses and models were beautiful, and it just so happened that Helen Mirren was sitting right in front of me - I was the in the 3rd row, she was in the 1st. Yes, I googled the photos that paparazzi took of her, and yes, I am in the background. NYFW goals.

My friend and I after the show.

Goodbye, NYC. A playlist of the songs that remind me of New York is coming soon.

NYFW SS 2016: Day 4 (ABC Kitchen, Acne Studios)

My fourth day in NYC was fantastic. I spent the day hanging out with my cousin (Max Gengos, who's NYFW presentation earlier in the week was fantastic) trying on possible Prom dress options, shopping with my mom in Soho, and eating at the most amazing restaurants.

While in Soho, I came upon a block with probably 100 people swarming around the entrance to a store. Surprise, surprise - it was the Kardashians. Since they live in the city that I go to school in, I feel like I'm constantly surrounded by their presence - I can't even get away from them when I go on vacation! I was excited to see Kanye, though, because I love him. Not as a person... I love his music, and the guy has great style.

I bought myself some clothes from Acne Studios with the money that I've saved up selling clothes on Poshmark, which was a huge deal for me. I've always gone into the Acne store, looked around, fallen in love, then sighed at the price tag; this time, I actually did it. I was ecstatic. I had my mom take this photo to commemorate the occasion.

Late that night, we went to ABC Kitchen, where I ate the most amazing kale salad (what can I say, I'm a California girl) and pasta. This photo I took of the New York skyline by the restaraunt just makes me want to blast The Strokes and go back as soon as possible.

NYFW SS 2016: Day 3 (The Whitney Museum, Gansevoort Market, The Highline)

On my third day in NYC, I met up with my best friend from LA and our friend that goes to Pratt in Brooklyn. We know her from a summer art program in Ireland, so it's always fun to meet up with her whenever we're in the same city.

We went to the Whitney Museum (as was suggested by a friend that goes to NYU), and I loved it. The current exhibition, America is Hard to See, was an amazing selection of American artwork throughout the 20th century. Work from some of my favorite artists, Basquiat, Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Haring, was included. You can walk up the whole museum from an outside staircase, which provides amazing views of NYC from the Meatpacking District near the Highline - definitely reminded me of Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires of the City artwork.

We then walked over to Gansevoort Market, where I got some delicious tacos (and spilled taco juice on my suede skirt... sad).

I had to take a picture of my adorable new backpack and the greenery at Gansevoort Market.

We then walked over to the Commes Des Garçons store by the Highline, which I've never been to. It's almost like a museum - the clothes are too expensive to ever consider, they look like pieces of art, and it's silent inside. The outside of the store, however, is vibrant and beautiful, so we took these photos.

NYFW SS 2016: Day 2 (Butcher's Daughter, Nolita, Greenwich Village)

Day 2 in NYC was the best. I got to see a bunch of old friends from summer programs at Brown University and UCLA, and I ate literally six meals. What could be better?

I had breakfast with my mom at The Butcher's Daughter, a little brunch place in Nolita that I went to with my family last Spring Break when we went to visit Columbia, NYU, and Barnard. The food (especially the french toast) is fantastic, and the people watching was ridiculous (mainly because it was fashion week).

The restaurant's decor is adorable... Still rocking the injured car-accident knee!

I took this photo about a block away (still in Nolita) with these awesome street art wings. I'm wearing:

Top: Vintage (from Melrose Trading Post)
Skirt: Vintage (from Haight Ashbury in SF)
Shoes: Dr. Martens Chelsea Boots
Sunglasses: Celine
Backpack: Fjällräven

I met up with my friends for lunch, then a walk through Union Square Park's (I think?) street fair, which included a lot more food. Here's a photo of this giant donut my friends just had to get. We also went to Insomnia Cookies in Greenwich Village, which was heavenly. I recommend the Snickerdoodle.

Later that night, I met up with my best friend that had just flown in from LA. We went to dinner in Soho, then walked to Molly's Cupcakes, and saw this cool psychic on the way. Stay tuned for more pictures!

New York Fashion Week (SS 2016): Day 1

Hello lovely people! I've returned from my very first New York Fashion Week, and I'm already missing it. I had the most amazing experience working at my cousin's presentation, seeing old friends that live in the city, and discovering places I'd never been before.

I always love taking photos of scenery from up in the air.

Acne Studios is literally a dreamland. I love their advertising, and it was all over the city on construction boards - the aesthetic killed me.

Here are some photos of my cousin's NEO-TROPICO presentation:

I got to work at my cousin's (Max Gengos) presentation, which was so much fun. The clothes were beautiful, and I'm so proud of him! I even got to wear one of his tops during the show. I'm still recovering from my car accident last weekend, so I had a bandaid covering up a nasty scrape and bruise that we stamped with Max's logo.

A Day On Abbot Kinney

It's now Tuesday, the last day of my lovely stay in NYC for Fashion Week. Well, again, this post was written last week, as I won't have my computer in New York - but I know I'll love my short visit. New York is one of my favorite cities; there's no way it could disappoint me. On the other hand, I love Los Angeles too. Here are some photos from my day on Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach, CA while my mom tried to get me out of the house after my car accident.

Me and the wall of the Happy Socks store. One of my favorite things in the whole world is Scandinavian design.

Oh look, more Scandinavian design! When I have my own apartment, I'm furnishing it with solely flea market finds, IKEA, and stuff from this store. I also love their shop sign.

Here's a cute pic of my battle wound from my accident, some succulents, and an aesthetically pleasing bench outside of the new Warby Parker store where my new glasses are from! Yay for being nearly blind!!!

Now this is good marketing. I didn't buy a shirt, but you can be sure as hell that I went in and felt them. Report: they were soft.

And what stroll on Abbot Kinney would be complete without a meal at Kreation? I'm not much of a juice-cleanse girl, but they do have some damn good food. This was actually what I needed after being confined to the couch with a neck brace and about five different ice bags placed precariously around my body.

 Pictures from NYFW coming soon!

What's Been Going On (my car accident)

So today is Monday (well, not really... I'm writing this on the previous Wednesday from the comfort of my couch), which means I am currently in New York City at my very first Fashion Week. I'm so ecstatic about this; I've been preparing for ages, which includes a long-ass NYC playlist (which will be posted tomorrow), as well as a long of shopping, packing, unpacking, and repacking. I settled on specific outfits for each day when I packed, which helps me stay organized and not make rash decisions that I'll regret when no blogger with a giant camera asks me to take a street style pic.

Anyways, I wanted to update you all on what's been happening recently. Last Sunday, I got in a car accident on the freeway. I was driving alone, and I ended up in the middle of a six-car pileup (I promise, it wasn't my fault!!!) and sent to the hospital in an ambulance. I only suffered whiplash, bruising, and a decent-sized abrasion to my leg, but basically, I got off lucky. I just wanted to take this oppirtunity to tell everyone to be safe driving, don't get distracted (I wasn't, but if I was, it would have been exponentially worse), and don't take life for granted. Thankfully, nobody else involved in the accident was injured, but unfortunately, my beloved Beetle was totaled. I loved my car; she was named Lucy (in the sky with diamonds), and she had the coolest stickers and flower vase. I had to go to the towing yard and get all my stuff out of the car, and I'm genuinely considering holding a little mourning session by burying one of the fake flowers I kept in the dashboard vase. I know, I'm strange.

Aaaaand here's some pretty sunset photos that my mom took from my phone because I couldn't get up off the couch on my own after the accident to see it.

I'm walking now, and definitely will be better soon. I mean, I went to Fashion Week! Nothing can stop me! But seriously, if there's anything you get from this post, please drive safely and always watch the road.

Outfit Of The Day: Balboa Island

Although school's in full swing by now, I did have a lovely time on Balboa Island in Newport Beach during the last week of summer. It was nice to get away from my town and the stress of senior year one last time before I started. Now I'm in full personal-essay-writing mode! Anyway, here's an outfit I wore on the island.

Top: Nordstrom BP.
Skort: Purrr Melrose
Bag: vintage Coach (from the Melrose Trading Post)
Shoes: from Capri!!
